Practical information

We’ll set off from Upernavik in a sturdy boat, designed to navigate the Arctic waters with ease. As we cruise through the fjords, you’ll be surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and may spot wildlife along the way. From May to October, this area is alive with activity, offering a truly immersive experience.

Our journey will take us to the base of Sanderson's Hope, where we’ll disembark and begin our hike. The ascent covers approximately 1,200 meters (3,937 feet) in altitude, with rugged and sometimes steep terrain that challenges even seasoned hikers. The effort is well worth it as we reach the summit, where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the Arctic landscape.

At the top, we’ll take a well-deserved break to enjoy lunch, surrounded by the stunning vistas that Sanderson's Hope has to offer. After recharging, we’ll begin our descent back to the boat. By the time we return to Upernavik, you’ll likely feel a well-earned sense of tiredness, having conquered one of Greenland's most breathtaking hikes and created unforgettable memories.

  • This hike to Sanderson's Hope is best suited for those with good physical fitness and experience with hiking on rugged terrain. The main requirements are that you can manage a steep ascent and descent, as well as safely get on and off the boat.

    Even during the summer months, Upernavik’s weather can be unpredictable, especially at higher altitudes. We recommend dressing warmly in layers, with wool base layers, a warm sweater or light jacket, and accessories like gloves and a hat.

    Be prepared for some exposure to the elements, particularly during the boat ride, so it’s a good idea to protect your camera and other valuables in a waterproof bag. Please note that we are not responsible for any damage to personal belongings.

    The tour is dependent on weather conditions, especially wind and sea state, which may affect both the boat ride and the hike.
